The Housing Choice Voucher Department (HCV) manages the CHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program, formerly called Section 8. The HCV program is a system of private rent subsidies awarded to low-income households. The administration of the CHA’s housing vouchers is primarily delegated to a private contractor, CHAC, Inc., which operates under the HCV Depart- ment’s oversight. The HCV Department works in tandem with the CHA’s Relocation Department to move residents from buildings undergoing reconstruction and assists them to find temporary and/or permanent replacement housing.
