Overview

The Chicago Housing Authority’s mission is to
provide affordable housing to low-income families
and senior residents.

Wait List for Family Properties is Closed

As a result of the Plan for Transformation, all of
the CHA’s occupied units are being rehabbed, or
rebuilt; therefore we are no longer accepting new
lease applications for our family developments
and our wait lists are closed.

Visit the affordable housing resources page for more information on other housing options.

Wait List for Senior Properties is Open

However, the CHA is accepting applications for some of our senior buildings. Units in these buildings are available to people aged 62 and older. Applications are accepted from heads of household 60 years and older.

To Apply for Senior Housing

Reminder: The wait lists for the CHA’s family developments are closed. Please do not call or submit an application. The process outlined below only applies to prospective applicants who want to get on a wait list for one of the CHA ’s senior developments at this time.

Step 1: To be considered for an apartment, you must submit a completed application. The application must identify which senior building/development you are interested in, your current address, your family composition and other basic information about you. Applications are available at any senior building, or can be downloaded (see below).

Step 2: Send completed application(s) to the CHA’s Occupancy Department. The Occu- pancy Department will process your application, determine your eligibility based on the information provided, assign your application an identification code, and place your application on the CHA’s preliminary waiting list according to the apartment size you requested. After receiving your application, the Occupancy Department will send you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application.

Step 3 & 4: The CHA will notify you by mail when your application reaches the top of a particular wait list. Your notification letter will also invite you to attend an in-person interview at your selected site. During this interview you will be provided additional information on housing options available to you.
