Description:

The Accountant is responsible for performing complex professional accounting and auditing work to ensure accurate payment, receipt and recording of cash flow to and from the CHA. Other responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Creates, balances, reconciles and audits monthly journal entries in order to maintain an accurate general ledger.
  • Reconciles and analyzes all funds of certain liability accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Analyzes and interprets a wide variety of costs and charges relating to labor, material, billings, authorizations of payments, etc. to ensure compliance with the Authority’s accounting procedures and accepted practices.
  • Conducts statistical and financial analysis and report findings.
  • Analyzes trends, costs, funding and financial commitments to future revenues and expenses.
  • Compiles, analyzes and reviews monthly payment requests submitted by a contractor(s) and prepare financial entry for payment and accrual purposes.
  • Makes recommendations for improving the financial controls and audit functions within the Capital Construction Department (CCD).
  • Provides input to improve accounting and bookkeeping functions within the department as needed.
  • Supports CCD in the coordination of audits and audit initiatives.
  • Represents Finance/Comptroller’s Office on various interdepartmental teams.
  • Gathers project database information to support financial and policy decisions.

Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field, and a minimum of three to five years previous work experience in a construction-related Accounting or Finance environment, or the equivalent combination of education and related work experience. This position also requires comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices; effective analytical and mathematical skills to maintain ledgers, account balances and other statistical reports; effective problem-solving, verbal, written and communication skills; proficiency in microcomputers and related software.

The Minimum Salary for this position is: $43,470.00
