campus, between 27th to 30th streets and State Street.
Public housing residents are represented by a strong leadership headed by the development’s Local Advisory Council (LAC). This council is synonymous with a tenant association and is headed by an LAC president who is part of the Central Advisory Council, the governing body of the LAC.
Dearborn Homes was constructed in 1950. Dearborn Homes was the first public housing development of its kind to employ the use of elevators. It set a precedent for the high-rise buildings that would become synonymous with the CHA.
The Dearborn site consists of 16 six- and nine-story buildings, comprising a total of 800 units
Dearborn Homes is currently operating as one of the CHA’s “relocation resources,” providing capacity for residents who have moved from other developments undergoing redevelopment or rehabilitation. Plans for the property’s future are currently under consideration.
