Lawndale
Gardens is located on 25th Street and California Boulevard on Chicago’s
near south side.
Public housing residents are represented by a strong leadership headed by the development’s Local Advisory Council (LAC). This council is synonymous with a tenant association and is headed by an LAC president who is part of the Central Advisory Council, the governing body of the LAC.
History Lawndale Gardens opened for leasing in 1942 as the CHA’s first experiment with small-scale public housing.
Lawndale Gardens houses 128 units on 6.5 acres of land. This development consists of four lines of two-story identical row houses.
Working group sessions for Lawndale Gardens will begin in 2003. The Working group will determine the scope of future work at this development.
