The CHA’s Plan for Transformation provides the backdrop for the work we are striving to accomplish in our senior properties. It is our 10-year, $1.56 billion commitment to rehab or rebuild 25,000 units of which more than 9,400 apartments are in 55 senior buildings throughout Chicago.

We are in our seventh year of the Plan and we
couldn’t be more satisfied with our progress in turning our senior properties into viable, thriving communities that our tenants can truly call home. The $350 million budgeted to rehab these apartments has made it possible to complete more than 85 percent of units as of July 2006.

We believe building better residential communities for our seniors begins with changing the physical landscape, but it certainly doesn’t stop there.

The CHA aims to provide our senior tenants with an environment befitting of a residential community where they can spend their golden years with ample access to a variety of social services. Senior residents gain access to these services through our service connector program which links seniors to programs offered by the different departments of the City of Chicago.

We recognize the importance of recreational and social enrichment activities in any residential community. We strive to provide multiple opportunities for seniors to tap into the benefits of Chicago ’s rich and rewarding quality of life. We are creating a better place for seniors to live.
