Wentworth
Gardens was named after John Wentworth, an early mayor of Chicago. The development
is located on the four-square-block area bounded by 37th Street, Wentworth
Avenue, Pershing Road, and Princeton Avenue.
Resident Leadership Public housing residents are represented by a strong leadership headed by the development’s Local Advisory Council (LAC). This council is synonymous with a tenant association and is headed by an LAC president who is part of the Central Advisory Council, the governing body of the LAC.
History Construction actually began in 1945, and when the war ended later that year, the development was used as low-rent housing. The CHA attained ownership of the development in 1956.
Wentworth Gardens originally has about 422 units, with about 300 residents.
Wentworth Gardens will be fully rehabilitated under the plan for transformation. Rehabilitation will include modernizing and transforming the interior and exterior of the development for public housing residents. Contact Property Management Office or Service Connector for Wentworth Gardens |
