Attorney Amy Degnan Gempeler Appointed as Chief of Staff

Former partner at Schain, Burney, Banks & Kenny, Ltd. and City of Chicago’s First Deputy Commissioner of
Housing and Economic Development

CHICAGO (July 26, 2012) Chief Executive Officer Charles Woodyard announced today that Amy Degnan Gempeler from the Chicago-based law firm of Schain, Burney, Banks & Kenny, Ltd. will serve as the new chief of staff for the Chicago Housing Authority.

“We are pleased to have Ms. Degnan Gempeler join our team as she brings a proven track record of success in both the private and public sectors to the Chicago Housing Authority,” said Woodyard. “Her keen understanding of city zoning and real estate will be a tremendous asset to our strategic plans as we continue to provide housing opportunities for residents and help build strong communities throughout Chicago.”

Last fall, Degnan Gempeler left her position as First Deputy Commissioner for the City of Chicago’s Department of Housing and Economic Development (HED) to join the law firm of Schain, Burney, Banks & Kenny, Ltd. as a partner in the firm’s zoning department.

She also served as former assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley where she assisted in the Zoning Code Reform Project that resulted in a new City of Chicago Zoning Code.

Degnan Gempeler’s former law partner Jerry Schain states "Amy and our partners were honored when the Mayor’s office called. My partners and I have all appreciated the opportunity to work with Amy and know that the CHA will benefit from her talents as much as we have. We look forward to working with her again in the future.”
