Board Overview

The CHA Board of Commissioners is the governing body that determines policies and resolutions of the CHA.  The Board approves decisions that chart the direction of current and future programs and authorizes the actions of the Chief Executive Officer and his designees.

The ten-member Board of Commissioners is confirmed by the Chicago City Council.  All commissioners must be residents of Chicago, and at least three commissioners must be CHA residents. Employees of the CHA are not authorized to serve as commissioners.  Commissioners serve staggered five-year terms.

Committee Structure

CHA commissioners may serve on three committees – Finance & Audit, Operations & Facilities, and Tenant Services.  Committees are formed by the following set of guidelines:

• The Chair and Vice-Chair are ex-officio members of all three committees, meaning they can vote, but are not counted for quorum
• In addition to the Chair and Vice-Chair, two other commissioners must hold seats on all three committees
• The remaining commissioners must hold a seat on at least two committees.

Board Meeting Schedule 2009

Board meetings occur at 8:30 a.m., on the third Tuesday of each month.  Each meeting begins with a one-hour closed Executive Session, followed by the public hearing and business session at 9:30a.m.  Below is the board meeting schedule for 2009.

Committee Meeting Schedule 2009

Committee meetings occur at 1:00 pm on the second Wednesday of each month at 60 E. Van Buren Street, Room #304.  The committee meeting schedule for 2009 is as follows:

*On these dates, Tenant Services Committee meetings are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and Finance Committee meetings are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. 

On all other dates, Finance Committee meets at 1:00, Operations & Facilities Committee at 1:30 and Tenant Services Committee at 2:00.
