Direct Deposit Registration

CHA distributes Housing Assistance Payments (HAPs) by making automated deposits into Property Owners’ bank accounts—direct deposits. Owners enroll in the service to ensure timely, automatic deposits of their HAP each month. In addition, direct deposit reduces costs and the risk of lost or stolen checks.

NOTE: All Property Owners that participate in the HCV Program must sign up for direct deposit. In addition, Property Owners that want to receive a HAP check remittance will need to provide CHA with their e-mail address.

Enrollment

To enroll in direct deposit, Property Owners need to submit two documents:

  • Completed Direct Deposit Authorization Form (this form is also available at any of the HCV Program Regional Offices)
  • A voided check (if using a checking account) OR deposit slip (if using a savings account)

Once you have completed registration, you will receive a test payment of $0.01 (one cent) from the bank to verify your information.

Online enrollment authorizes the Chicago Housing Authority to electronically deposit your HAP into your account until you notify CHA in writing of any changes. By enrolling in CHA direct deposit, you assert that you are in compliance with the HAP Contract and that the assisted unit is in full compliance with the HAP Contract terms.
