Housing

As the largest owner of rental property in Chicago, CHA offers a variety of housing opportunities for low-income families and senior citizens in four types of housing:

• Mixed-income developments located throughout the city;
• Senior apartments;
• Scattered site housing; and
• Traditional developments. 

Eligibility Requirements

Senior Properties

For senior properties, you must be at least 60 years of age to apply for a unit, and 62 to move in.

Scattered Site Properties

CHA is currently not accepting new applicants at any of its scattered site properties.  To apply for scattered site housing, you must meet one of the following criteria:

• Be a current resident of the community area for which you are applying for scattered site housing (i.e. you must be a resident of the South Shore community area to apply for South Shore scattered site housing),
• Be a current CHA resident requesting a transfer unit,
• Be a current Chicago Housing Choice Voucher holder.

Family Properties

CHA is currently not accepting new applicants at any of its family properties. However, units are available for leaseholders who were living in a CHA development on Oct. 1, 1999.

Mixed-Income Properties

CHA is currently not accepting new applicants at any of its mixed-income properties.  Eligibility requirements vary by development, but CHA has outlined a minimum tenant selection plan for all mixed-income properties.
