Senior Services

CHA provides funds to property management companies to provide Resident Service Coordination Programs (RSC) for senior residents.  These funds go toward hiring staff, purchasing computers and providing life enrichment programs for residents living in these buildings.  CHA’s Senior Supportive Services Department monitors and evaluates these services via site visits, evaluations and audits of resident files.

The Resident Service Coordination Program provides on-site services at all CHA senior buildings, as well as Wentworth Gardens, Bridgeport Homes, Hyde Park Elderly, Lowden Homes and Trumbull Park.  (Funding for seniors living in Family Developments is provided by the HUD ROSS Elderly grant.)

The main goal of the program is to significantly improve the residents’ quality of life, ensuring access to services they need, while fostering an enjoyable community with recreational and cultural activities within the building.  Through these services for senior citizens, public housing residents are able to “age in place” while remaining independent.

There are at least two planned social activities a month, including field trips, seminars, educational workshops and parties.

Resident Service Coordinators also work with tenants to identify needs and appropriate supportive services in their community, as well as assistance in select daily living tasks, service location and budget management.
