CHA Student Internship Program - Summer 2023

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) has as its mission to provide stable, decent, safe and affordable housing to more than 62,000 low-income families and individuals, while supporting healthy communities in neighborhoods throughout Chicago. To achieve its mission CHA has varied departments meeting the needs of the agency and its families. The CHA seeks applicants to serve as interns in numerous departments in the 2023 CHA Summer Internship Program. Applicants must be currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited college or university for academic year 2022-2023; and majoring in subject areas relevant to departmental needs at CHA (SEE FACT SHEET).

  1. Do I have to be a CHA resident to apply?
    First preference is given to CHA public housing residents and CHA housing choice voucher program participants.
  2. Do I have to be in college to apply?
    Yes. Currently enrolled students in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two-year or four- year institution) are eligible; applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 for undergraduates and 2.5 for graduate students.
  3. Is the CHA Internship a paid position?
    Yes, the CHA Internships are paid experiences at the rate of $15.40 per hour.
  4. Is the CHA Summer Internship Program a full-time internship?
    Yes. The Summer Internship Program is full-time for 8 working hours per day/40 hour per week. Applicants should expect to work Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM – an hour is allocated for lunch.
  5. As a CHA Intern, where will I work?
    Interns may be assigned to any CHA departments requesting interns, or to CHA vendor organizations. The Internship program is focused on providing a broad exposure to various aspects of the housing authority.
