CHICAGO (Jan. 14, 2021) - The application period for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Scholarship starts today. The program allows CHA students to apply for one of more than 250 college scholarships of $1,000 each.

It came in handy for Brianna Bussell.

The former Englewood resident who grew up in a CHA property utilized the scholarship to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Eastern Illinois University. She is now CEO and founder of Webinsight, a web development company.

“It’s going to assist you,” Bussell said. “The purpose of the CHA Scholarship is to help us succeed and to get us through college.”

The CHA Scholarship is available to current CHA public housing residents or Housing Choice Voucher participants who have at least a 2.0 GPA and are high school seniors or college undergraduates. Awards are based on applicants' academic merit, community involvement and essay content. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited two-or-four-year college or university in the U.S. in the Fall of 2021. CHA’s nonprofit partner, Springboard to Success (S2S) supports the scholarship.

The deadline for the application period is midnight, Friday, May 14, 2021. Go to http://thecha.org/scholarship for more information.
