CHICAGO (September 28, 2020) – The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) announced today that its annual Owner Symposium will be held virtually as Symposium Week, October 19-23, 2020.

Since it was first held in 2008, the Owner Symposium has grown from a small educational forum for property owners working with CHA’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program to a premier educational and networking event for rental real estate professionals.

The event typically draws over 1,000 property owners, managers, brokers, investors, and other professionals representing approximately 10,000 units throughout Chicago’s 77 community areas, as well as dozens of vendors and community organizations. Moving each component online, Symposium Week strives to recreate the in-person experience in a virtual environment.

From 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, CHA will host a robust agenda of virtual sessions from industry professionals on topics ranging from property maintenance and taxes to fair housing, landlord-tenant relationships and investment portfolio strategies. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit a virtual exhibit hall, watch live demonstrations from event sponsors, network with fellow attendees and learn more about the HCV Program during short breakout sessions.

The week will kick-off with an opening session led by CEO Tracey Scott, featuring a keynote address by President & CEO of Access Living, Karen Tamley, and will close with a networking virtual happy hour.

Registration is free and open to all property owners, managers, brokers, investors and rental real estate professionals regardless of their affiliation with CHA.

About the Chicago Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Chicago Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program plays a vital role in housing families with children, the elderly and people with disabilities across Chicago. Using federal funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the HCV Program helps eligible low-income families pay for housing in the private market, such as apartments, duplexes, condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes. Families contribute 30-40% of their income toward rent and utilities. CHA additionally provides programs that help families realize their potential and cultivate their personal, economic and social skills to support the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing.
