National Public Housing Museum - Exterior of building

This April, CHA joined hundreds of public housing residents, partners, and guests to celebrate the grand opening of the National Public Housing Museum, the nation’s first cultural institution dedicated to telling the stories of public housing residents.

Located in the last remaining building of the historic Jane Addams Homes, the National Public Housing Museum is filled with history, memories, music, and art. the building is also home to 15 residential apartments, including five that are supported by CHA Project-Based Vouchers.

“This museum is the place where we show the world the richness, resilience and humanity of our public housing communities,” said CHA Interim CEO Angela Hurlock. “Now more than ever, preserving this history matters. We need to make sure that the lessons, struggles and triumphs of the past are remembered by generations
to come.”
