The Ella Flagg Young building was constructed in 1975. The building’s namesake was superintendent of Chicago Public Schools from 1909 through 1915 during which she sought numerous reforms. Young was the first female superintendent of a major city school system in the country and was elected as the first female president of the National Education Association in 1910.
