Paid Summer Youth Opportunities

The Chicago Housing Authority provides more than 2,000 CHA youth with access to paid summer opportunities, in partnership with the Mayor’s One Summer Chicago Initiative. 

Program Details 

  • Participants receive on-going job readiness instruction and career exploration integrated with paid employment for six weeks.
  • Depending on their age and the program selected, participants will receive a $600 stipend or hourly wage of $15.80 for up to 120 hours of participation (both enrichment programming and worksite hours).

Eligibility 

  • Chicago Housing Authority resident. Non-CHA youth are not eligible to participate in CHA programs.
  • Ages 13-24 (must be 13 and not older than 24 years old by June 24) 

 How to Apply 

  • The application for the 2024 summer youth employment program is open and will close May 30.   
  • Visit onesummerchicago.org to access the application. You will register for a new account. 
  • The application has two parts. In part one, you will build your profile with basic contact information. Once completed and submitted, move on to section two. 
  • For part two: “Opportunities”, select available programs of interest. Select ‘Chicago Housing Authority.’  
  • Then, enter the last four digits of your social security number to verify eligibility. For eligibility to be verified, the last four digits of your social security number, name and date of birth must match CHA’s system of record. 
  • If you are interested in the Learn and Earn program, please note this is a two-step application. Once you complete the One Summer Chicago application, you must continue to fill out the After School Matters application that is emailed to you. Once you submit both applications, you will receive an offer that you must respond to within 72 hours to accept or deny the position.  
  • If you are interested in the CHA Internship, please be prepared to upload your official or unofficial transcript AND resume (acceptable formats - pdf (Portable Document Format; Adobe Acrobat) .doc, .docx (Microsoft Word Document)). Transcript and resume are required for consideration of the position.
