Helping CHA Youth Access College and Persist

CHA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year CHA provides $250,000 in scholarship award money to over 200 CHA residents currently enrolled in degree-granting programs. Students of all levels are eligible – from freshman, through graduate students and adult learners. Scholarship recipients have represented over 90 colleges and universities across the country.

With the help of corporate and private donations, S2S endeavors to create a Scholarship Endowment of $5 million to sustain and grow scholarship awards for CHA residents.  Since it’s inception in 2013, 89% of scholarship recipients are still enrolled with the first class scheduled to graduate in the Spring of 2017.

COLLEGE TRANSITION COUNSELING SUPPORT

In an effort to help clarify the true cost of college, S2S funds college transition support counseling for new and returning college students. CHA youth and their families meet one-on-one with an experienced college coach to help address any gaps in the student’s financial aid. Coaches help identify scholarships, work-study opportunities, and special programs for which the CHA youth might be eligible. In conversation with the youth and their family, counselors help make important decisions to ensure students attend schools they can afford and have the best support to persist to graduation.

Together they work towards getting each student to and through college. In the past two years, College Transition Counseling Support has eliminated over $160,000 in potential college debt, an average of nearly than $2,000 per student.

You can learn more about college transition counseling on the CHA’s Education Page.

CORPORATE INTERNSHIPS FOR CHA COLLEGE STUDENTS

S2S connects CHA college students to internship opportunities that allow them to apply their classroom studies, while also providing them with valuable career experience.  CHA staff match candidates based upon academic majors, and pre-screening during an in-office prep session.  Corporate partners such as RSM, Dimeo Schneider, First Eagle Bank and Now Pow have each played a key role in this initiative.  If you are interested in providing valuable paid internship opportunities for a CHA college student, please email us at S2S@thecha.org
