Inspections

June 24, 2024

Any housing unit selected by an HCV family must meet an acceptable level of health and safety, as established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), before CHA can approve it for occupancy. Performance requirements and acceptability criteria are applied to each room as well as to the building exterior, heating and plumbing, and general health and safety of the unit.

Change of Ownership/Management

June 24, 2024

Selling or buying units? Changing property management? To ensure a smooth transition and avoid delays in payments or processing, property owners must notify CHA of any change in ownership or management as soon as possible – either immediately after closing or once management has been added or removed.

While in-person appointments and paper forms are available by request, CHA encourages everyone to try the remote and paperless system first. Digital requests are more easily tracked, which limits repeat requests and therefore processing delays.

Vacancy Payments

To encourage property owners to quickly re-lease their HQS-compliant units to HCV participants, the Chicago Housing Authority is offering vacancy payments for those that qualify.
