Resident Spotlight: Ranye Holmes' Journey to Morehouse College

Ranye Holmes and his mother Winter Morris have been a formidable team. Now he’s on the brink of realizing his dream.
“My Mom had me pretty young. She raised me – but we kind of raised each other,” Ranye said. “We’ve been through it all, from shelters and everything – just getting through life together.”
Ranye, who missed only one day of school throughout his entire elementary, junior high and Kenwood Academy High School career now embarks on a new journey at his dream institution, Morehouse College. He was one of 210 college-bound students who participated in CHA’s 15th annual Take Flight College Send-Off on Aug. 5 at Malcolm X College.
Ranye was an honor student at Kenwood Academy, played football, was in the band and served as a mentor to other students. Having just completed an internship at Northern Trust, he hopes to major in business.
“Morehouse was his number one choice. We went in April, and he fell in love,” Morris said.
